Daily Schedule:
8:30 Drop off - Children are dropped off outside, dressed ready for the weather of the day. Outdoor play is a vital part of early childhood. It gives children the chance to explore, move and learn in a natural setting. Unstructured playtime is essential for young children because it allows them to explore freely, develop creativity, and build confidence while practicing problem solving and social skills at their own pace. Along with unstructured play, we will also have guided activities where children will participate in hands on activities designed to foster a deeper connection to the natural world. They may engage in gardening, caring for small animals, or learning simple homesteading skills, alongside nature walks and organized games. These experiences not only support teamwork, problem solving, and following directions but also cultivate curiosity, responsibility, and an early appreciation for sustainable living.
9:30 Morning meeting - Children transition inside and come together for morning meeting- a time to greet one another, sharing news, explore the calendar and weather, participate in a group lesson, and preparing for the indoor work time.
9:45 Work time - An uninterrupted period of focused learning and exploration. Students independently choose from a variety of Montessori and nature inspired activities allowing them to follow their interests and learn at their own pace. Teachers provide individual and small group lessons, introducing new concepts and guiding each child toward their next step in learning. While some children may be absorbed in building early math and literacy skills with Montessori materials, others may be exploring cultural studies, tending the plants, or exploring with natural materials. Students also enjoy the freedom to decide when to have their snack, developing independence and self-regulation as they learn to listen to their own needs. This balance of freedom and gentle guidance creates a calm, purposeful environment where children can develop curiosity, concentration, and a genuine love of learning.
11:45 Group time - Children come together in a warm, welcoming circle to share in meaningful group experiences. During this time, they sing songs that build language skills and foster a sense of community, play interactive games that encourage cooperation and problem solving, and listen to engaging stories that spark imagination and develop early literacy. Group time also provides opportunities for children to practice turn taking, develop social skills, and build connections with both their peers and teachers in a supportive, joyful environment.
12:15 Lunch - A calm and social part of the day where children come together to enjoy trash free meals they bring from home and practice important self-help and social skills. They learn to wash their hands, be responsible for their own lunches, and use good table manners. As they eat, children engage in friendly conversation, share stories, and build relationships with their peers in a relaxed setting. Teachers provide guidance and support, encouraging independence while fostering a positive attitude toward healthy eating and mealtime routines.
12:45 Rest time - After lunch, children take part in cleaning up by clearing their dishes and wiping tables, helping to develop responsibility and a sense of community. One cleanup is complete, the class transitions smoothly into rest time, giving children an opportunity to relax, recharge, and prepare for the afternoon's activities. Students who do not fall asleep after a half hour will have the opportunity to engage in another quiet work time.
2:00 Afternoon meeting and snack - Students will gather to hear another story and then have a group snack.
2:30 Outside Time - Another opportunity for students to engage in unstructured outdoor play as well as some guided activities.
3:30 Dismissal - All students will be picked up by this time. Pickup will be outdoors.
Timing may vary due to weather conditions and planned activities. Some days we may stay outside for the entire work time.
