A Natural Beginning for Lifelong Learning

At The Children's Homestead, learning happens in every season and in every setting. Our children thrive as they jump off rocks, balance on logs, climb trees, and explore the streams, and woods surrounding our homestead. By blending the Montessori philosophy with a Nature School approach, our program nurtures independence, curiosity, and a deep connection with the natural world. Along the way, children develop essential skills in language, math, geography, music, art, animal care and sustainable living.

With generous outdoor time for spontaneous play and guided explorations, our knowledgeable staff provides a balance of structure and freedom. A typical day includes group time for stories and games, snack, lunch, and extended work periods where children can explore their interests; whether tending to the garden or crafting with natural materials.

In the classroom, children engage deeply with Montessori materials that bring abstract concepts to life. Hands-on tools help them build a solid foundation in numbers and letters, while our cultural studies invite them to explore the rich diversity of people and places around the globe. Through these experiences, children not only gain academic skills but also develop an appreciation for the interconnectedness or the world they live in. â€‹

Equally important is our focus on peace education and community. We guide children in resolving conflicts with respect, practicing empathy, and learning what it means to be a responsible member of a group. Children begin their educational journey around age three. Over the course of three years—two in preschool and one in kindergarten—each child has the unique opportunity to grow as both a learner and a mentor. Older children naturally become mentors to younger ones, cultivating leadership and compassion, while every child learns that their voice matters in creating a harmonious, cooperative environment.

Here, they learn responsibility, respect, and the spirit of community, all while building a strong foundation for lifelong growth over three truly transformative years.
